I still don't understand what the possible motivation for this is. Most of the other actions are clearly tied to Russian interests or general interference and destruction of US power.

Going after Greenland doesn't really assist either of those goals. The only thing I can think is trying to get the US into its own Ukraine situation, which I guess makes sense on some level to someone, somewhere.

Controlling arctic routes, especially as more open up with climate change. Also any minerals, oil, gas, etc.

I assumed it was over their natural resources? Greenland has a ton of rare Earth minerals that are going to be key for manufacturing electronics. Basically, he just wants to destroy Greenland for their resources.

i suspect having a larger claim to arctic ressources is another angle.

I think it's a trade route between the US and Rusia.

Probably has oil and other resources too when you consider the ice is melting like an uncle guss BBQ.

Someone else commented that the melting ice up north and oceanic currents changing means the way by Greenland will likely become the major trading route for whatever the fuck is left of human civilization in the near future.

Take control of ressources, land and navigation path so he could enforce pressure points like a mafia boss (for example: taxes to all European ships traveling near).

Power, control, coercion is all what matters for him.

Greenland may be one of the last viable options for living during global heat spikes.

Supposing Trump actions are trying to empower Russia, an American/Europe conflict over Greenland, destabilize the region and give Russia the opportunity of being the "neutral" third party that command the zone. Internationally, the US have the most powerful army, but in the Artic, the Russian have way more strength.

Pasting something I posted elsewhere:

I’m convinced that Trump only wants Greenland so that he can say he has an even biglier piece of stolen land than Putin has with Ukraine. It’s all a tiny dick-measuring contest.

I think Trump wants the US to have their own Ukraine and has decided on the scattershot approach, targeting Denmark, Canada, Mexico and Panama.
