This is all joke and fun until you realize we are heading towards the 30s

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 80 points 10 months ago

and we totally passed up girls wearing flapper dresses...

[-] cowfodder@lemmy.world 62 points 10 months ago

You're just not hanging out with the right women.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 28 points 10 months ago

probably 😭

being middle aged and married, i need that shit to be in the open!

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 19 points 10 months ago

I'm 52, married and up until a few years ago I did dance nights regularly. Charleston, swing, salsa, tango, etc with women half my age was a regular thing. It doesn't have to be weird if you don't make it weird. They were lovely and we had a blast.

PS: Dancing (Ballroom, hip hop, etc) is a great way to make sure you don't lose mobility with age. Once you hit ~45 keeping, your mobility starts to be an constant effort.

sadly I have two left feet... I hear you though. I love to people watch and attractive young ladies are attractive but I'm not asking for anything other than enjoying that moment

[-] transientpunk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Go take dance classes. All it takes is practice

[-] frunch@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Seriously. I found our local vocational school has an evening program for adults including dance classes. Good exercise, nice way to spend an hour and meet a few folks. If you're new, just take a beginner class! If you aren't ready to move up from there by the time it's done, take it again next semester. Lessons usually are not that expensive and everyone is there to learn--it's ok to have 2 left feet, you're just trying to get a little more control/comfort using em 🙂

But didn't we have climate change back then? The Dust Bowl..?

Oh yes, it's going to be just like that, except much worse!

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 10 months ago

The decade metaphor might fail here but let me tell you it's five past twelve

[-] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 10 months ago

i'd personally say it's at least ten past twelve but whatever

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

Yeah, but shit was so bad we elected FDR who put in motion the things we coasted off of up till about the 80s when we forgot what it was like without that stuff.

Like, trump might be making things happen faster than scheduled. But I'd rather have AOC in 2029 than 2033....

It doesn't matter if we think accelerationism was the dumbest gamble in history, it's already happened.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

Yeah but this time we're doing a faster and ahead of schedule.

Let's just hope there's a new FDR to come with it. Sure would love to see that one.

[-] whiskeytango@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago

Well, AOC is often only referred to by her initials

[-] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 10 months ago

I wish AOC could be the new FDR

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

Every head in the room turns to watch the monkey's paw curl

[-] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 10 months ago

Oh no, does that mean shes going to intern Japanese people and be extremely racist?

[-] Hupf@feddit.org 4 points 10 months ago

Yeah but this time we're doing a faster and ahead of schedule.

Efficiency!

[-] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 months ago

Considering FDR threw 100,000 American citizens into concentration camps because of their race, I think we've already got one

[-] VubDapple@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

We might get there early

[-] Patrikvo@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Don't worry, those of us left are going to see marvelous things once we hit the 60s.

[-] myrak@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Its like before but this time with robots

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

It's like before but this time you have to subscribe.

[-] Patrikvo@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

And adds. "Your neighbourhood's destruction, sponsored by General Concrete inc!"

[-] ramble81@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

At least we skipped a world war 1 part deux.
