And I could post a photo of a farm in China and accurately say "This is an actual picture of the supposed HSR train corridor in China" because things have to be built, and the past and present exist. Because isn't that what you're doing? Posting a before photo to disingenuously dunk on California instead of talking about oh, the dozen or so things wrong with their rail project?

It's not disingenuous when I live here and they have been talking about this for decades while existing infrastructure is left to rot.

What existing infrastructure? Highways? Let them rot. Existing rail? I agree, the state should expropriate the railroads and electrify everything.

In conclusion, ban cars.
