Watching this shit unfold from outside Canada is stunning.

I understand not all nations have the same political culture.

But in France, everyone is aware that we consume far too much plastic and it’s seriously harming both our health and environment. Claiming you support plastic packaging is political suicide.

So quick question: why do people insist on using a straw? I refuse one at any chance I get offered one because I rather drink out of a cup like an adult.

I think it has to do with the flimsy paper cups and being spill resistant. To drink out of those cups directly means no lid, whichakes spills a lot more likely and far worse.

I have seen some places use lids you can drink from (usually only coffee lids, but costco has them for fountain drinks), but that's still plastic waste almost necessary for drinking.
