Hello comrades and welcome to the third improvement megathread of April! bonfire There are exactly 10 days until the end of the month. It's a good time to get back on track or make a new goal.

Some discussion ideas:

  • How was your week?
  • Do you have any plans for next week or next 10 days?
  • Do you have some streaks or sober days to share?

What have you been watching? I saw the Minecraft movie in the cinema this week and it was better than I expected. I came in with very low expectations but it was a fun time, especially in the cinema

That's cool! I've never even played Minecraft so I think I'd be so lost watching that. I haven't even been to the theaters in forever but I'm going with old friends to watch Star Wars Episode 3 rescreening soon so I'll be binging the entire series according to Ring Theory this week and end with Episode 3 when we go watch it. Curious to see how theaters are these days.

I watched Solaris most recently for the first time which was mind blowing to say the least. It was so fascinating and a really cool twist to SciFi film plots. Gorgeous film. Also recently watched Fassbinder's World on a Wire. Another film that was really well done and very much ahead of its time. I actually really liked it and would recommend it, but I kept falling asleep through it repeatedly and had to split it up over 4 nights. I think it was just mostly stress exhaustion though, not the film's fault. It's a made for West German TV film though so it naturally splits into two parts, I just split each part into a further split. Then watched only the last 3 episodes of Samurai Champloo last night just to watch the end for the hell of it with a bunch of free Indian food a friend gave me because it was accidentally delivered to her and she didn't want it, which was delicious, by the way. It was fun!

I guess I haven't actually watched anything trashy lately according to my list. Just throw on Simpsons or Seinfeld when I want to take it easy.

Have you seen Soundtrack for a Coup d'etat? I watched that recently and it's suuuuch good tankie material, literally because lots of Khrushchev but still excellent!

Soundtrack for a Coup d'etat

I haven't watched it but I've heard it's good. My favourite Tarkovsky movie is definitely Stalker. I want to go to the cinema to watch Mickey 17 this week.

Yeah, Stalker is such a classic. So far only watched those two films of his.

Hope you enjoy the movie!

Self Improvement

1 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
