Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.
Rules:
-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --
-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --
-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --
-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --
-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--
-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--
-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --
-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --
i still think this is the weirdest way to handle this. if everyone was using their birth restrooms, then you get dudes with big beards in the womens room. like obviously not a well thought out position.
It is well thought out, because they don't want trans men in women's toilets. They don't want trans people in public, or to exist at all. That's the entire point.
Jokes on them, I'll piss in the street while shouting 'they should provide access to facilities' at anyone who looks at me
Laws like this are designed to be selectively enforced against people that a society wants to discriminate against.
This isn't an oversight so much as a way to empower the state to pick and choose who gets punished.
In the case of laws like these, fully passing people pee like they did before. Everyone else is fucked
Fully passing and fully stealth. If someone at your work knows and hates you for example, still fucked.
True. That is a tiny sliver of peope
it helps to frame it as "they don't want trans people to exist in public at all".
It's well thought out if the goal is just transphobia (which it is)
Is the goal transphobia or is transphobia the guiding principle? I don't imagine them thinking "we should do/say this to be transphobic" but more going "because of transphobic beliefs we have, we believe we should do this".
I think it's an important distinction between a more widespread unconscious problematic belief within society which permeates everything and must be addressed through deep roots (cultural revolution type beat) and a consciously held and enforced idealism upon which removing the enforcers would solve the problem (just vote out the transphobes)
as far as goals, it seems to me that this kind of reactionary political project uses transphobia in the same way it uses homophobia and misogyny as ideological tools to enforce 'normalcy' (e.g. patriarchal nuclear family). then when people don't or can't adhere to these norms, that is the justification to cut them out of the social safety net, which in turn supports gutting the state.
No, they literally do start with "I hate trans people/they make me uncomfortable/whatever so we should do this to hurt them". The purpose is eliminating us.
That's the neat part: trans men are banned from both restrooms!
I guess they can piss outside or something???
Or rather organisions are now allowed to ban trans men from both bathrooms. The Equality Act is a badly written and conceived law in many places that labour could fix any time they want (but won't).
As understood by a layman, bathroom is a room containing a bath, i think that makes toilets A OKAY /s
I know it's bullshit to expect the most vulnerable to do the heavy lifting when it comes to opposing existing power structures.....
But that's exactly what I'd be doing.
Anytime I had to piss I'd walk over to my most bigoted coworker and start pissing on their desk. Sorry, just following the law. I'm not allowed in either bathroom and tou have to let me relieve myself at work. Might be time to start considering whether these laws make any sense.
I bet you would, bro
Totally and then everybody would clap and tell me how big it was.
Didn't you say in this thread that you "don't have to care because it's all bullshit"?
Why don't you fuck off and stop caring instead of telling trans people what they should be doing?
No i said literally the opposite and said it's bullshit to expect trans people to single handedly stand up to this shit without support.
I didn't mean to say that's what I would do if I was them I was fucking around.
I guess I should have started the comment with "bit idea" instead of saying "what I would do is"
My bad, I was just trying to make light of a shitty situation.
I kinda get the feeling most of these clowns don't even know that trans dudes exist
When you realize the establishment would rather trans people not exist at all, the thought process begins to make more sense.
