Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

The only thing I don't like about it is being behind on gnome since their DE is a forked older version of gnome afaik. Especially for recent gnome extensions, it's not always the most amenable. But mostly even on that front it's workable
Cosmic DE is about to exit alpha. It is a modern experience and removes all that aierd gnome jankiness
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I hope it lives up to the hype. I like gnome but at the same time even just the need for the extensions is annoying. Because you're right, they can be janky really easily depending on factors.
