I'm curious how Voyager for Lemmy is funded. Or is it just community driven so the workload and potential costs are spread out far enough that nobody is footing the bill all by themselves?

AFAIK the Apollo source code was never open sourced. So while the UX is clearly a successor to Apollo, the code was built from the ground up.

A spiritual successor, if you will.

I suppose it depends on your perspective of the ship of Theseus.

As I recall that hypothetical requires that you start with the ship and replace things over time, not that you saw it once and try to replicate it.

My point is that the blueprint of the original app is there whether or not it was rebuilt from scratch. The developer may have rewritten the app themselves, but at the end of the day weโ€™re essentially using Apollo for Lemmy hence the reference.

I don't think you've ever created a single thing in your life, let alone a computer program. There's no other possible expansion.

We're not essentially using a Benz horseless carriage.
