As the International Court of Justice takes its next steps on investigating and prosecuting war crimes in Israel’s war on Gaza, the top expert on Palestine at the United Nations is pushing for even more international accountability.

In a wide-ranging exclusive interview with The Intercept, U.N. special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese, called for top European Union officials — including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen — to face charges of complicity in war crimes over their support for Israel during its 18-month assault on Gaza.

“The fact that the two highest figures of the EU continue business as usual engagements with Israel is beyond deplorable,” Albanese said. “I’m not someone who says, ‘History will judge them’ — they will have to be judged before then. And they will have to understand that immunity cannot equate with impunity.”

Not that I necessarily disagree but why the EU in particular when pretty much every other western country is just as complicit with Israel?

Easier to blame one person instead of a revolving door of who's currently running France, Italy, Germany, etc. etc. etc.?

She, Francesca Albanese, is and has been always a controversial person according to a report from U.N Watch [ed] and this link in JPost

"A report by United Nations Watch on Wednesday is urging democratic nations to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights, accusing her of promoting antisemitism, supporting terrorism, and spreading misinformation."

According to the view of some, the whole world must be complicit.

[ed]: typo HRW must be UN watch.

It's a start. Hopefully, more people get tried and called out.

Still, fuck von der leyen

Because the EU is Israel's biggest trade partner and claim to represent democracy, humanity and all that.

I mean obviously the EU is Israel's biggest trade partner, it is literally a block of almost all the nearby countries they can trade with, but I was more thinking about why not the leaders of those individual countries too? Why focus on the EU which has much less of a direct shared foreign policy than the individual member countries.
