Death Stranding is a game that grows on you real slowly. If the second is anything like the first, then that's the difference right there.
The likely explanation is that the playtesters are now used to Death Stranding mechanics since Death Stranding already exists. I remember there being a lot of people who thought Demons Souls and Dark Souls 1 were bad because they weren't used to the mechanics, and now Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies to almost universal acclaim.
Me and my friend taking 5-6 hours playing dark souls 1 and never even making it to the second bonfire, thinking the game takes place entirely within that first castle area, lmaoooo
