No I'm just bad at finding communities (I moved from reddit and is new to fediverse)

It looks like foss@beehaw.org is the biggest. Search communities for “foss”

No, Beehaw defederated your instance. The open-source community on lemmy.ml someone else already mentioned is your best bet.
