Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
Well hey there ya go, literal brown shirts.
EDIT:
Also... I believe the guy on the right has a Sig Sauer MPX... 9mm (or 357 sig, or 40 cal), full auto capable, not sure if this particular one is integrally suppressed or the suppressor is attached...
US Army is an offical MPX user, but concievably any large scale US Federal LE, or even SWAT team or police department could use them as well, as well as basically just any LE person that can get a class 3 NFA due to their position.
Guy on the left seems to have a non standard issue pistol. Fancy grip and magwell, flared out duckbill ... could be a customized M17? Not sure.
The grenade launcher he has is often used for crowd control: tear gas rounds, flash bang rounds, smoke, etc, they could have come out of this thing.
I got no fucking clue what that patch design is.
EDIT 2
Also possibly worth mentioning:
A fun way you can tell they are dressed for maximum intimidation effect?
Helmets, all tricked out, earpro/radios, eyepro, face masks... but no serious body armor.
They're both just wearing minimal chest rigs, which probably (?) have kevlar in them, but theres very little area actually protected... they'd maybe stop a pistol round or two, not a rifle round though.
They don't even have kneepads.
This is the kit you choose if you expect basically no armed resistance, but want to move fast and look very scary.
An actual raid against people you'd expect armed resistance from... they'd have more serious body armor.
EDIT 3:
At the rate things are going, I would not be surprised if within a month or two, these guys start rolling in with LRADs mounted... you know, the directed sound weapon things we invented to do crowd control in Iraq.
They may already be on some of their vehicles, just haven't used them yet.
EDIT 4:
Total guess on the patches?
E ## is either 'Extraction Team Member ##' or possibly 'Echo Team Member ##'... if its the latter, that just means there's multiple different teams, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, etc...
But that is a total guess.
Still no fucking clue on the insignia.
Something something imperialism something something fascism turned inwards
SORRY WHAT I CANT HEAR YOU MY EARS ARE EXPLODING YOULL HAVE TO TALK LOUDER
literally who gives a fuck what specific guns/gear the nazis are using? how could you possibly convince yourself that that matters?
Yeah, who needs intel? That shit's stupid, just be angry!
... Are you serious?
Knowing what a force is equipped with can help you figure out what exact unit / organization they are, what their capabilities are, potentially how to resist them...
Also gives insight in to the psychology of the group. Cops used to wear a mag or two on the side of back of the belt. Now I see them wearing four mags at a two o'clock position. Because now they think they're going to get in gunfights and want 80rds on tap, ready to go, where they can easily reach them after dumping the mag loaded in the gun. That shows a significant shift in cop culture and practices and you wouldn't know if you don't pay attention to their kit and how they wear it.
Damn, I hadn't even thought to point out mag positioning, I am so acclimated now to seeing what you pointed out that I forgot it even ever used to be different.
Yep, these guys are increasingly running 'high speed, low drag' loadouts...
Meanwhil, what was it, less than a year ago we had that vid of ... a fucking acorn falls onto the cruiser a cop is walking past, cop screams out in pain, does a bobby hill version of a combat roll, mag dumps into another parked cruiser with a detained suspect in it, shooting right past/near the other officer next to that other cruiser, with the 'backstop' for those rounds being a bunch of townhomes just 20/30 feet from the car?
Jesus fuck what an embarrassment that video was.
They're all terrified bullies cosplaying as Judge Dredd, still haven't figured out that the Punisher they idolize would be vigilante murdering every cop with a Punisher tat or decal if he existed irl, because the cops that idolize him are the very corrupt, inept idiots he hates.
Bleck.
