Is there a "The Leftovers" controversy I'm missing?
It's an excellent show, but if you don't like it then yeah, stop watching. I didn't find it controversial, but it has religious themes, which can be personal to people, and death/loss is a heavy subject.
For those that haven't seen it the basic premise, as the article states, is that 2% of the population disappears one day. So then what happens? That's the show.
This just sounds like they couldn't get the rights to Left Behind
That's fair, it's more a world that knows that book/film exists, which is where the religion comes from.
As usual the quote in the title is severely out of context. He was saying that the first season was made in a way that deliberately chases off some viewers.
2% disappear or 2% are left?
2% disappear, 98% remain.
