Canada’s federal police have launched a criminal investigation into several IDF soldiers who also hold Canadian citizenship, on suspicion of crimes against humanity allegedly committed during their military service, Canadian media reported Tuesday.

The report, first published by the Toronto Star, marks the first time Canadian authorities have formally opened a war crimes investigation against dual Israeli-Canadian nationals. The move has triggered concern and controversy within Canada’s Jewish and Israeli communities.

According to the report, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating Canadian citizens who served in the IDF, whether in active duty or as reservists, during the war in Gaza. The probe reportedly began in 2024 but remained under wraps until now. It could include evidence collection, information sharing with international bodies and potentially even indictments on Canadian soil.

Wiping Israel from the map is technically a way to stop Palestinians from "being oppressed in Israel", but it isn't a good one.

It's a way to stop the oppression in the entire region in general. Including Lebanon and Syria. And stabilizing the region entirely.

Israel never was a legitimate country to begin with. It was founded on genocide. And recent actions from their government and its zionist zealots have further deligitimized it.

Besides, you can't have a true democracy if you're going to be a theo / ethno nationalist country.

I assume you also advocate for the dissolution of Russia and China, on that same basis?

No. Because Russia and China have been there practically forever. It wasn't created just a century ago by killing and destroying an existing nation based on a crooked ethno-fascist ideology.

Those mobile goalposts seem very convenient. I may have to get a pair.

I'd like to hear your arguments in defense of Israel, a colony born out of an religious ideology in the early 20th century, that anyone with a certain faith, regardless of ethnicity, has historical rights to a land they, or their ancestors, never lived on.

Your question is in no way different than asking why Muscovy has a right to the various regions that make up Russia, or why the Han should rule over what we call China, why Turks should not be kicked out of Anatolia, Arabs out of the Maghreb, or why Canada should not be turned over to the various first nations who were here first. I could at least respect that kind of moral consistency. However, when the rules are defined so that only one country in particular falls under their purview, I have to wonder if there are any ulterior motives.

My arguments for or against the existence of Israel are irrelevant. If they'd asked my permission I'd have said no, but it exists, and any argument where it must cease to exist is in the worst possible faith. If you consider Israel to be the only colonialist country in the world, I think you're simply an antisemite looking for any fig leaf you can find.
