Oky, so I have control of the lemmy.world instance now. I think its only fair to throw it to the floor about where this community moves to next in response to that. I'll make several options. Note, before anyone brings it up Lemmy.zip is not an option because it has geoblocked the UK, and I can't access it without a VPN. So I've decided to do an advisory poll for what the next moves should be.
- Lemmy.World
This is obviously the largest Lemmy instance, and the community on there automatically inherits 5k subscribers (albeit old subscribers) if it goes active. But many people here and elsewhere have expressed concern about centralisation on Lemmy.world.
- Piefed
One of the more interesting, quick-growing and developing instances on the wider Forumverse. I set up a television community on Piefed not so long ago as I was interested in how it was developing, and the history of here can exported there (albeit posts only). Piefed itself though is a different site to Lemmy, and has many different features - and also issues with interacting with the Lemmyverse (Piefed subscribers are not picked up by Lemmy, and stickies on there don't currently work across the Fediverse, and it has basic integration with mobile apps currently). It however is under active development and I do expect a lot of these issues to be sorted.
It also though, as an instance, has some cool features: feeds, flairs and ability to subscribe to communities and comments. It's easier to keep track of things on there, but it's truly best used as a user on Piefed, not as someone from the lemmyverse.
3 Sopuli.xyz
A general social Finnish-based instance that has medium activity. I don't know much about it.
4 Discuss.Tchncs.de
A techy-based instance (although not exclusively) from Germany that has medium activity. I don't know much about it. They also run these services.
I'll make 4 replies, and users can upvote what they support.
I think you can transfer your posts over, so you wouldn't lose your work. You've put a lot of effort into this community and it'd be a shame to lose that
It only transfers to piefed though, so anyone interacting with it from outside of piefed won't see it
Yeah, I think TV and movie communities would probably benefit even more than chat and ask communities by starting with content for people to see and not starting from scratch all over again.
It's a pity that piefed doesn't add to the subscriber count yet (I never knew that) but personally as a user looking for a place to sub to, I'm looking at the amount of content more than the subscriber count.
Yes you can see the interactions on posts so you know how busy it is
