I hope this is okay but I sent this in a DM instead of replying to you directly in the UM thread because I feel like perhaps this discourse may not be better for the greater fediverse as a whole. Additionally, I don't need UM trying to antagonize me into a flamewar. I'm in the middle of some intense training at work and I only see Lemmy well after my ADHD meds wear off, and I want to try and minimize the amount of stupid slapfights I get into.

I do want to say, after medication, that quote I picked seems to criticize moderation and administration where UM is allowed. That was poorly done. This wasn't meant as criticism. I wanted that top bit, and the bottom bit, discussing their behavior, and the middle bit could've been cut for concision if I was in a better frame of mind.

That said, this is a person who admits to playing agent provocateur and attempting to rile people that they perceive as enemies up enough to get them banned. The crowing about the people they've made mad sits wrong with me, but that's because it's against the anarchist code of conduct. Antagonizing milquetoast non-nazis or non-fascists is not something to be proud of, and it's certainly not something to go out of your way to do. For fun. And then brag about.

And finally, someone who intentionally learns the rules of a place in order to manipulate others into violating them, on an instance with folks known to have ADHD and autism is cruel. Either the people dealing with UM in the fediverse will give UM more leeway to be a dick, more freedom to be manipulative since he might not understand the rules, or, and this is way more likely, the other people across the fediverse who see UM as a representation of dbzer0 are going to be equally judgemental and harsh on our people going about their business.

I view attempting to give a long ass reply to someone and end it by telling them to 'disengage' in the thread yesterday as a perfect micro-example of the behaviors I'm criticizing.

I wanted my reply to only talk about the things that UM has recently admitted to. I could get into a big dig-em-up and provide evidence of unacceptable behavior from the past, but I recognize the value of trying to give someone another chance. In my local community, if you get a person with a terrible reputation, or who has engaged in unacceptable behavior, they're put on probation and can only go to events if they have an assigned elder with them, to teach them to be better and keep an eye on them, but this is the internet. We don't really have any way of establishing that kind of accountability.

Anyway, whatever they have been accused of doing in the past, their account on dbzer0 has been pretty wholesome overall. We decided to give him a second chance here. Let bygones be bygones and all that. And so far at least, no problems. Make of that what you will.

I'm curious if this plus allowing AI on our own time will get .world to scorn us and call us Tankies, somehow.
