The writers of both shows wrote the universe into a ludicrous and untenable corner that sabotages future productions; Romulans are gone, the Borg are gone, the Federation is gone, it's like someone who despised Trek their whole life dropped a bowling ball on the setting out of spite

The aftermath of the Dominion war is utterly wasted, the inevitable showdown between the Romulans and the Federation that was hinted and built up since TOS, TNG, DS9, and even Enterprise is wrapped up with a lame supernova, the Borg gone (but not really), and they're good guys now too (but not really)

And then THE BURN......whoever came up with that pigeon-shitting-on-a-chessboard idea was the definition of a hack, I heard it was a Brexit allegory, if true liberals should be banned from writing fiction ever again

It's become noticeable that the newer, better shows are straight up just ignoring the plotlines of Picard and Discovery and since Trek is famous for it's parallel universe elements, it's safe to say PIC/DIS will get Star Wars Legends treatment and it can't come soon enough

the finale of Lower Decks subtly hinted that Discovery took place in an alternate universe

Thank God, they're already laying the groundwork

JJ kinda did it first with Lens Flare Trek.

Strange New Worlds definitely laid some groundwork with the Temporal Wars arc though.

Not really - it just showed that an alternate universe had Disco Klingons. Which doesn't mean only the AU had Disco Klingons.

My personal headcanon says that any major variations in the appearance of Klingons over time is non-diagetic or Doylean.
