Oh is he like the opposite of that Manga artist that made Attack on Titan? Or Kojima (who I know doesn't like war, but I heard he's an Ameri-boo)?

I think fujimoto and kojima are very similar in their love for western cinema/media. I’ve only ever played mgs1 mgs2 and a little death stranding but imo it’s hard to say how kojima actually feels about america. I think fujimoto was pretty clear today

I don't see how you come to the conclusion Kojima loves America beyond his infatuation with cinema. The villain of MGS2 is the sitting US president.

And I'm not far in Death Stranding 2, but it really seems to be setting up a story about how America super pinky promises it won't do imperialism, but it creates rolling crises in other countries that only the imposition of US private corporations are prepared to "solve", but that solution is actually just an exacerbation that permits the further spread of imperial monopoly control.

I've heard people call him that, probably mostly because of the western cinema thing.

If so, that's amazing, and I would have to play it. Do you have to play Death Stranding 1 for it to make sense so far?

It depends what you mean by "make sense". Kojima's stories and worlds are always incredibly complex and confusing, but generally do a sort of materialist analysis of the terms he sets. There is a degree of internal coherence that you can grasp by thinking materially. The imperialist story can be understand in that way, and it's pretty textually explicit.

But the personal story of the game will feel very hollow without understanding the first one. For a lot of people, that personal story was too weird to hit, but I found it pretty moving and the second game starts off strong on the standing relationships between a central cast of characters.

Think I'll play the first one just in case then. Hopefully it's still good. I heard a lot of it depends on multi-player online stuff, which I'm always hesitant to play way later. Never know if they'll shut down the servers, or I'll decide not to play for Playstation online play that year, or the player base just lowers naturally from time passing, etc.
