actually a really good idea if you live alone with pets…
like, if i get hit by a truck i don’t want my dog to starve to death….
That's not what en emergency contact is though, is it?

however, “in case of emergency, i have a pet at home alone”: is pretty important….
e.g. i’m adding my pet to my list of emergency contacts on my phone now… they’ll figure it out.

No, it's someone you or someone/somemany contacts in case you're in an emergency, not someone in a will necessarily, nor who needs help in an emergency from you necessarily either.
For the dog it is
Ah, we thought they meant put them in the will.
There was a guy in my neighborhood that died of cardiac arrest at home with his 3 dogs. No one noticed for a few weeks and by the time someone did the dogs had eaten the body and only one dog was alive.
I still feel awful about not checking on him...
