One recent article referred to President Trump as “Big Tech’s Personal Lobbyist,” for his efforts to undermine U.S. state and international efforts to regulate or tax the enormous wealth of digital economy giants.

I have been trying to do my part the only real centralized social media I use is Discord, because a community I am part of uses it. I have accounts on a few other social things but they just sit there dead.

I have gotten more into blocking ads, and not paying for things to not see the ads, because I do not want to pay even 0.01% of a penny to the Trump government. I use Unwatched to watch the youtube I wanna watch, because it can block ads. I used to pay apple for hide my email, the amount of spam I got was a few times a week, I cancelled that and gave myself a month to move all my hide my emails to a host in Canada. I can count the amount of spam I have gotten these past few months on one hand, and that is only because I have my old ISP email address forwarding to one of my email addresses I check.

I am an adult but I do not like accidentally coming across porn, so my pihole setup blocks most porn sites. I have a few dollars to my name so I can afford to be sucked into the never ending void of micro payments, it is not fun when it happens because it takes a little while to get out, I have sense turned off the ability for in app purchases to prevent myself from being sucked into the void again. I have cancelled all US streaming services and started using Radarr and Sonarr (with Prowlarr, Transmission, and Jellyfin). I have moved most of my online data onto Canadian servers and service providers, if Carney is not going to keep his elbows up when it comes to our digital sovereignty I will keep mine up!

Right on!! Like you, I HATE spam. And the thought that I'm helpless to receive unwanted corporate communication makes me a little nutty. To that end, I've found email filters to be really helpful when all else fails. I use protonmail but I imagine other email applications have something similar. As soon as I get one unwanted email, I create a new rule: based on the sender's email address and/or subject line keywords - instantly move all current and future messages to trash and mark as read. Out of sight out of mind

I go one step further, I do not use filters I use separate email addresses. While I was still using apple’s hide my email and I got spam I would reach out to the service if I still used it and tell them emails were leaked, then I would change my email address. If I had forgotten that I had that account I would just close the email.

I tried out proton for a bit but I heard that they supported Trump, it seems that this story may not be true, so I wanted to move to a Canadian host. Sure it is not as easy as Apple’s hide my email or proton but cpannel is not that hard.
