For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is La Notte (1961), one of the most acclaimed works of one of Italy’s most renowned directors, Michaelangelo Antonioni, whose L’Avventura (1960) and The Passenger (1975) we previously watched. A bourgeois Italian married couple have grown so alienated and detached that their relationship is nothing more than a serious of passionless functions; the film follows one day in their life, where they cheat on each other and ruminate on the faults of their marriage. Will they work their problems out? I guess we’ll discover that for ourselves. This is considered one of the best Italian films of all time, and it is currently ranked #166 on the Letterboxd Top 250.

After that is Robocop 2 (1990), the sequel to the classic sci-fi satire Robocop (1987), which we previously watched. Paul Verhoeven was not involved; Irvin Kershner, George Lucas’s mentor and director of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), takes the director’s chair this time around. The megacorp that created Robocop has managed to revive him, because they need him to eliminate a drug-addled cult taking over the streets of the dystopian future-city. But uh-oh, the cult leader has himself become the subject test for a new, evil Robocop model, and the two robots are destined to clash. Who will win? I bet the good guys do, but there will be a whole lot of blood, gore, and explosions along the way. This film has undergone something of a reevaluation in recent years, so let’s see it’it’s good.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:

Would you like to be added to other ping lists as well?

Some of us are trying to organize and standardize the movie showings as more people want to use it. Here's where we're discussing it. https://hexbear.net/post/5832848

Everyone maintains their own list but there's some streamlining happening. Last week we watched In Bruges at this time, this week we're doing Samurai Cop.
