Does Newsom's new tactic of trying to imitate Trump actually appeal to people?

I assume they like it, but I meant the average person.

I have a relative, somewhat progressive late 50's white woman... It's working on her. 😭

[-] Carl@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Hey that also describes my mom who it is also working on

Average people aren't on Twitter, they use Instagram.

No, really, I don’t know a single person irl who uses twitter

[-] Barabas@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

It has been featured on national news. I, perhaps wrongly, assume that people other than twitter users read news.

The average person in the US is blue MAGA.

the average person in the US sees voting as a chore they don't want or need to think about more than once a leap year. and they aren't wrong

He is the obviously the anointed favourite by the Dem establishment, but this shit just seems like it wouldn't appeal to the general public. But I don't know if that is "they go low, we go high" brainworms. They already have the blue no matter who crowd locked down, who is this meant to appeal to outside of the demo?

[-] miz@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

they only have to be appealing to donors

It’s tough man. We are continuously in a bind with all this. And I guess it’s by design.

I wouldn’t call myself “blue no matter who,” and I won’t be voting for Newsom in the primary certainly, but knowing that he’ll win the primary (by hook or by crook), that gives us a conundrum. I am in the “anybody but Trump and MAGA” camp, and I do regard Newsom as the far lesser evil here.

I mean, look, Kamala wasn’t a great candidate, but things would be objectively better right now (not great probably, but definitely better) if she’d have won the election. I’d much rather be complaining about her at the moment.

On the other hand, it’s also true that Democrats will only stop moving to the right once they stop winning elections, and we continually supporting bad candidates in order to prevent the worse ones from popping up doesn’t help pull them to the left.

Honestly I don’t know what else to do, rather than pulling the lever for President Newsom, if we even still have elections by then.

You have over 3 years to join a local socialist or communist party or a mutual aid group and to directly help your local community.

The hopelessness you feel is intentional propaganda by the united states to crush the idea that other forces for change exist. Quit focusing on elections. You can affect change right now if you do your part.
