MODERATORS
what got moderated on the other community?
Historically, some of the moderation on slrpnk has been super extra. They seemed like they were sort of verging into "only one set of opinions is allowed" territory similar to lemmy.ml, where instead of disagreeing with someone, they would just ban them and aggressively claim they had every right to because in their opinion the person is wrong and only agreeable opinions are allowed.
Looking at the modlog it doesn't really seem like it has happened at all in the recent past in the climate community. I remember some bullshit happening, and you could definitely say that 5 months ago they shouldn't have removed a comment saying agriculture is the leading cause of climate change. They could, instead of that, have just disagreed and explained why in a reply, that would have been better for all parties concerned. You could definitely say that it was bullshit handing out a temp ban because someone else objected to removing the content in the same way I just did.
But, also, it was 5 months ago. One weird moderation decision every 5 months is way ahead of the curve for Lemmy. All the current stuff that I see is just normal moderation.
I sort of suspect that there are people on Lemmy who specialize in ginning up weird inter-instance drama, who also tend to latch onto particular tribal identities like veganism/vegetarianism, and they tend to take genuine issues and spin them up into massive problems that people need to "pick sides" one or the other on, and the whole thing just kind of becomes more combative and friction filled day to day as a result.
No idea whether that's what is happening here with climate_lm. I do sort of agree with needing better moderation than some of the slrpnk communities, but IDK why you would make a grandstanding alternate community right on the exact same server. Just use some other climate community, there are already some. But anyway, TL;DR, nothing in the recent past got moderated that I can see, I think this is sort of a nothingburger.
Judging by the context, I suspect a vegan member of the community
yeah I would guess the same thing. it reads like the usual "get banned for toxicity then act like a victim of political censorship" shtick
