Fun fact: The Te Reo Maori alphabet doesn't contain the letter "L". So I don't think "ala" could be a valid Maori word at all.

It's the kind of thing they use in school in New Zealand (Aotearoa) to teach kids the basics of Te Reo Maori pronunciation. Here's a video with a lesson in pronunciation.

Here's a similar resource used to teach colours.

If you want to hear some spoken Te Reo here's a short video which tells the story of the great hero Maui taming the sun.

If you can track it down there's a 2002 movie called Whale Rider which is a good watch and features some Te Reo as well as portraying some other aspects of traditional Maori culture.
