Somehow I have made it this long on the internet without death threats

That's not a threat, that's a mean suggestion.

Never thought I'd upvote a comment saying "Kill yourself"

Right? Who gets death threats?

Honestly, you can get them for anything. My partner got multiple death threats for a post she made about soda one time. My best friend got tens of them for making a joke post on reddit about being able to fight a blackbear. Granted the common denominator for both of these was Reddit so maybe it's just that.

I got them twice in reddit. One was some wildly racist whackjob who really got off on calling me stuff while making up some weird story about who I was in his head. Report and block and move on. Another was a Freemason candidate who was SUPER upset after he acted like a douche and got called on it by his own people. He blamed me for his actions. Lots of people will blame other folks for their own actions.

I was gonna say the same thing. Never had a death threat sent to me, but I have had guns pointed at me a couple of times, so I guess that is a death threat of sorts. Been threatened with violence a few times, and even an attempted carjacking once. Not a damn one of them was conscientious enough to put it in writing though.
