There are also carve-outs around city population specifically so it doesn't apply to Beverly Hills and around the number of rail stations in a county so it doesn't apply to Contra Costa County.
It's the most nothing burger of all time.
And even if it didn't it's just upzoning. Granted bad zoning laws are a problem sometimes but asking "developers" to decide to make apartments means you're just going to get overpriced condos that will be used by blackstone as a financial instrument and not the kinds of affordable apartments that would bring prices down across the board.
Newsom's media people are working hard right now to make everything he does seem really great. He sees his shot at the presidency in 2028.
Even if he wanted to do social housing (he doesn't), it's basically illegal under the CA Constitution and would require a statewide ballot to change. Article 34.
They tried a few years back and it went down in flames.
Yeah California's constitution has a bunch of stupid stuff like that baked in by the neolibs, like affirmative action is illegal here too (not that that stops racists from thinking we're doing it all the time).
Housing price go down is non-negotiable.
