They got 165 votes but lost to one country the United States. Ultimately, people don’t see a problem with that. If I were Cuban, I wouldn’t even bother going to the UN to do that pointless shit, bro.

Even though the UN is useless for issues like this, it helps for agitation. Before every voting session, every solidarity organization in their respective country mobilizes to talk about the illegal blockade of the US.

The more people talk about the blockade, the stronger the solidarity which leads to incredible material actions like this one reported by Granma:

  • In rural electrification, a donation of 5,000 photovoltaic systems was completed. Other programs include a European Union program for six mountain communities and the Ciénaga de Zapata, and a Canadian donation for 502 systems in Holguín.

I just watched a video saying the resolution was passed. Will this actually make any change to the embargo at all?

Sadly no because it doesn't solve the fundamental issue which is the US viciousness. The UN has proven incapable and useless in stopping the US.

If you are interested in specific examples on how the blockade currently hurts, I have the following posts:

this is a general assembly resolution, which means that it is non-binding. the only binding resolutions are passed in the security council, where US has a veto (this is where the Israel-Palestine related resolutions have been failing to pass for the past two years if you recall). this exact general assembly resolution has passed for 33 times now.
