I really hope the CIA keeps failing.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were arrested Saturday after Venezuelan officials accused them of coming to the South American country to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro.

The arrest of the American citizens included a member of the Navy, who Cabello identified as Wilbert Joseph Castañeda Gomez. Cabello said that Gomez was a navy seal who had served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia. Spain's embassy in Venezuela did not reply to a request for comment on the arrests of its citizens.

The U.S. State Department late Saturday confirmed the detention of a U.S. military member and said it was aware of “unconfirmed reports of two additional U.S. citizens detained in Venezuela.”

Surveillance video shows a man setting himself on fire outside the Israeli consulate in the US city of Boston, purportedly in protest of the regime’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, outside the Israeli consulate which is across from the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Boston.

There was a large police presence as investigators collected evidence and searched cars in the area on Thursday.

Witnesses described the scene as deeply upsetting. The person was taken to a local hospital for severe burns, but his current condition is unknown.

The person’s identity, motives, and condition are currently unknown. But his action is reminiscent of Aaron Bushnell, who self-immolated in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC in February 2024 to protest the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Lower-income American households are running out of money at the end of every month, the discount retailer Dollar General said as it released dismal results that drove its shares down more than 30 per cent for their sharpest one-day drop on record.

The largest US dollar store chain, with more than 20,000 locations across 48 states, painted a bleak financial picture for many of its customers after years of inflation and the depletion of savings built up during the pandemic. Shrink, an industry byword for inventory losses that includes shoplifting, was also on the rise, it added.

In a move celebrated by pro-Palestinian activists as a win for the divestment movement and a “major victory” for Palestinian rights advocacy in the US, the San Francisco State University (SFSU) has pulled investments from four weapons companies involved in Israel’s war on Gaza.

Students for Gaza SFSU said the university will sell its corporate bond position in American aerospace and arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin Corporation, Italian defense company Leonardo, US-based data analysis enterprise Palantir Technologies, as well as construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar.

Three bullets to the head ended a presidential campaign, sending a South American nation and parts of Washington D.C. reeling. Fernando Villavicencio, a charismatic Ecuadorian politician, had been rising in the polls in the August 2023 snap elections by promising to take on the corrupting influence of violent, organized drug cartels. Less than two weeks before the election, as the candidate walked among a cheering crowd towards his car at a campaign event, an assassin shot him dead.

Now, leaked private messages purportedly sent by Ecuadorian Attorney General Diana Salazar, and reviewed by Drop Site News and The Intercept Brasil, reveal why the U.S. invested so many resources to investigate the candidate’s assassination: according to Salazar’s purported messages, Villavicencio was a U.S. government informant. And Salazar, who was apparently in close contact with the U.S. ambassador, helped shape a public narrative that the leftist party was to blame for the killing—a maneuver that successfully kept the Correaistas from returning to power and dramatically accelerated the Ecuadorian state’s staggering descent.

Now, the tranche of hundreds of private messages show Salazar may have revealed sensitive information from the investigations, lending credence to allegations by Correistas that she engaged in a pattern of politically motivated actions, including aggressively pursuing cases against left-wing politicians while simultaneously delaying cases against more pro-U.S. right-wingers.

The President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, has accepted an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the upcoming summit of the BRICS group. The information was confirmed by the Palestinian ambassador to Moscow, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, who stressed that PA President Mahmoud Abbas accepted the invitation to participate in the BRICS summit to be held in the Russian city of Kazan.

Nofal pointed out that it has not yet been defined whether the Palestinian representation will be occupied by Abbas himself or whether Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa will participate in his place. But he stressed the importance of Palestinian representation at the event, regardless of who ultimately attends on behalf of the PNA.

The invitation to Abbas to participate in the BRICS summit and the group's endorsement of Palestinian membership in the UN highlight the growing interest and support of these countries for the Palestinian cause in a context of rising tensions in the Middle East.

Israel has banned coverage of the damage inflicted by Hezbollah strikes deep inside the occupied territories early August 25, Western media say.

The Telegraph, quoting sources, reported that the Benjamin Netanyahu regime issued a censorship decree, requiring reporters to obtain permission before publishing “damage caused by rocket attacks to strategic infrastructure or to military bases” to avoid “harm to Israeli forces on the ground.“

According to a report by the state-run British media outlet BBC, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general of Lebanon's resistance movement Hezbollah, is expected to produce evidence that rockets hit targets in Israel.

Researchers reviewed media reports on U.S. school shootings and found there had been at least 144 incidents of gun violence, which they defined as any time a gun was discharged on campus, last school year.

NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- There was a 31 percent rise in U.S. school shootings during the 2023-24 academic year compared to the previous year, according to findings published on Friday by the nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety and the K-12 School Shooting Database.

The president of Argentina, the ultra-right-wing Javier Milei, allocated 100 billion Argentine pesos for the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), which in the month of August registered only two expenses totaling 80 billion pesos.

This exuberant sum, which, quantified in dollars, exceeds 100 million pesos, took place on August 1 and August 12, a period in which the messages from “Argentines” with the word “Venezuela” registered a strange and disproportionate increase, and when the increase of espionage against opponents of his Government due to the discussion of the DNU has been denounced.

“There is no money”, were the words that remained engraved in the conscience of Argentines who have seen how their quality of life has been in accelerated decline as a consequence of the cutback in government spending and the liberalization of prices in the economy, which have resulted in a decrease in purchasing power of more than 30%.

The vassal country is literally following Amerikkka's footsteps.

The Argentine chapter of the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) issued a report Tuesday showing that some 1.5 million children in the South American country skipped meals every day and at least 1 million cannot eat dinner. The same document published within the framework of the campaign “Hunger does not have a happy ending” also found that 4.5 million adults in these households fail to eat all their daily meals as well given the current economic crisis and would rather feed their offspring.

Every passing week, I keep getting horrible news coming from Argentina due to Milei's policy to gut the state to oblivion. Now, we are seeing the results of this libertarian scum. All of the accusations that they had against Venezuela are currently happing in Argentina, the vassal country of the empire.

Interesting that the liberal media in Latin America doesn't talk about it.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly fears facing “assassination” as a result of his efforts at pursuing normalization of the kingdom’s relations with the Israeli regime.

American online news magazine Politico revealed the matter in a column published on Wednesday, citing the royal’s recent conversations with US lawmakers.

“The Saudi royal has mentioned to members of Congress that he’s putting his life in danger by pursuing a grand bargain with the US and Israel that includes normalizing Saudi-Israeli ties,” the piece read.

Right on time, sadly. Now, I wonder how the republicans(and liberals) will frame their propaganda to manufacture consent for a future political clash with Mexico. There are no doubts that this shit is going to heat up.

If the Europeans oligarchs move their assets into the US, what would that mean to the EU working class? Will that push them to finally antagonize and oppose their capitalist class?

I know that my questions may be speculative but it is an interesting scenario to think about.

Another great reason to join BRICS. If Russia was able to improve this much even with sanctions, I can't help to imagine what will happen to Cuba, Venezuela, and ton of countries that want to run far away from western hegemony.

All of the most popular subreddits are talking about Navalny's death as if he was some kind of hero. It is impressive how propaganda can PR this dude's image into a fantastical hero/human that liberals can look up to. Truly disgusting how libs fall for this
