My hot take: blocking other users does almost no good, because everybody else still sees the shit they're spewing. I don't want to cover my eyes to ignore problems; I want to work towards fixing them, and in this context that means either rebutting the offending comments or reporting them so the mods remove them for everyone, not just me.
