What's up with that weird answer? These creeps never give a straight answer when you ask them direct questions. If that person just wants to be edgy and thinks it's funny... Well, maybe they're a dumb, poorly socialised teenager. Cos it's not funny. It's not even a joke, really, is it? What's the joke? That they're not actually Hitler?

Yeah, it's pretty bizarre. Regardless of the intended level of irony, it's a very bad joke, in all senses of the word 'bad'.
Not every sense of the word -see Michael Jackson - Bad, George Thorogood - Bad To The Bone, Badass, and so on.
I think the reason for that is insufferable people like OP will always respond.
There's really no point in discussing with people like that. They have an agenda and they won't stop until they get what they want.
