I frequently wonder whether English is Michael's first language, because he has some extremely strange but remarkably consistent linguistic quirks in his writing.

I'm reading it as "A Linux driver for ThinkPads is ready to start reporting damaged devices on your system - starting with bad USB-C ports."
Headlinese is kind of ruining this one.
So, usb devices that are connected to your laptop, or the laptop's usb sockets themselves?
I assume the latter.
Fixing the typo (‘damage’ instead of ‘damaged’) would’ve gone a long way.
i think the the "s" on devices is also important to make it make sense
