Barbenheimer worked because of the great contrast in the style and substance of two movies which were both directed by well respected directors. Dunesday is IPslop vs. IPslop.
Dune is actually good though. It'll become IP Slop when they start making fanfiction as movies.
I'm a dune fan, that's why I haven't watched the new movies. If I watch them I'm going to be incredibly pissed. from what I see of them, they look like shit. as dar as i know a hack director decided to adapt a book that's mostly dialogue and exposition without using dialogue and exposition, because it's what his remedial writing class said he should do. They also supposedly whitewashed it removing the islam bits for example.
Removing the Islam bits is fine imo. The Jihad is a horrible thing and it's better to not associate it with a live religion.
Not to mention that Barbenheimer was largely organic. You can't just make that happen again
