Yeah sure, but the difference is that this absolutely could be easily documented. Most iranians have phones, most could record evidence and save it for when they do have outside communication. Most news agencies would jump on this evidence and even pay money for it because it would support their narrative. We have significantly more means and a significantly greater motive (in the eyes of the american state atleast). We are not in the 1940s anymore. Not to mention that the US and Israel had access to Iranian street surveillance footage for years and would have produced video evidence for their claims if they could. You should read the brookings institute plan for US policy towards Iran.

I never denied that the Iranian government was repressive to be clear.
