Satan is not out here murdering 168 school children. Christians are doing that. Satan is not out here raping and genociding its neighbors. Jews are doing that. Satan is not out here murdering peaceful protestors. Muslims are doing that.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 2 days ago

Satan doesn't kill a single person in the Bible. Yahweh on the other hand...

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago

Satan isn't really much of a presence in the Bible at all. Christians made up more shit to have something to blame for everything they don't like.

[-] Demdaru@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Wasn't it that Satan did 4 things?

  • A bit of arrogant rant that he is not gonna serve humans. Got thrown to hell. By all loving father. Yeah.
  • Still pissed, nudged Eve to break the God rule about apple. God had a meltdown and not only banished but also cursed Adam and Eve.
  • Teased Jesus to break his goal. Didn't work.
  • Teased God on few occassions about devotion of humans. Then God made people suffer to prove his point.

Like, Lucifer always seemed to me more like disgruntled old family friend/worker than some evil guy.

The serpent being Satan was a retcon from the New Testament, too.

"I'm not in the business of murdering innocent children. That's God's jurisdiction."

Or rather nationalists. It's not that the IDF is a religious organization or something

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Eh, don't know if you can truly separate the IDF and their religion. Certainly the rhetoric they employ relies upon it.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

So why is the Israeli government and IDF committing a genocide?

[-] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Because of nationalism and colonialism. They might use religious rhetoric where it suits them and there are religious people in government, I don't deny that, but over all it's a ethnic supremecist ideology and religion is only one identity marker, not the motivator.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

And all of this is rooted in religious overtones. You take the religious aspects out and I doubt this would be happening. The ethnic supremacy is rooted in religion.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

Small minded response

[-] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

Murican patriotic rhetoric is full of liberty and the founding fathers and the flag and stuff. Do you think, without one of these elements, there would be no nationalism?

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm not talking about the US.

[-] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

And I was giving an example of nationalism that's more than its rhetoric

[-] toad@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 days ago

Yes religions are the cause of every issues /s not imperialism or capitalism, religion.

[-] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 10 points 2 days ago

Organized religion is a very useful tool for imperialism and capitalism, and I'm tired of pretending it isn't

[-] deacon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Evangelical Christianity IS a manifestation of capitalism. It is the culture arm of capitalism.

[-] toad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

It predate capitalism by a thousand year but ok.

You're thinking of protestant, it's not secret that allowing usury meant breaking up from the pope. But even then, religions are theaters of the class war, not only tools for the powerful.

[-] deacon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Christianity predates capitalism. Evangelical Christianity is a much more modern development.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I don't recall saying any of these words you're putting in my mouth. Are you suggesting the people committing these atrocities are not what I say they are?

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Racism literally came from Christianity. It definitely is the problem and creates a framework to allow capitalists/wealthy to take advantage of people.

[-] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 days ago

From Abrahamic religions in general. They seem to share the theme a lot

[-] toad@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

yea japan is notoriously racism-free.

I know you guys are oppressed by a bunch of christian fundamentalist, but my wife is muslims and secularists here would love to "remigrate" her to the very same biggots that tried to kill her.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Imagine confusing xenophobia with racism. While there are some traditional cultural groups that experience discrimination this does not translate to general racism like in the US or European.

Most African Americans experience more freedom in Japan than in Christian dominated cultures. Why is that?

Toad opens mouth and inserts foot.

[-] toad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Because japanese racism is mostly targetting chinese and korean whereas black people is presented to them through american medias, which they consider high culture.

Japan was allied with the nazis ffs

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Glad we can put you silly comment about racism to rest

The US funded the Nazi for Christ's sake. What is your point?

[-] toad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

My point is that the US isn't evil specifically because it's christians and that religion isn't the enemy.

My wife's muslim and the fascists here would have no problem shipping her back to the very same place where extremists attempted to her life. In the name of atheism.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Christianity is very evil, no denying it. Read the Bible, full of disgusting displays of manipulation and power.

I know all this. Ever heard of liberation theology? Religion is a theater of the classwar, not an enemy in itself.

Nowadays secularists want to "remigrate" my wife because she's muslim.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

I have heard many theories in my life, religion has always been used to enslave and control. That is the reality.
