I can't wait for public transit to suck less in Canada.
We've got new skytrain lines being built in metro Vancouver right now, as well as public surveys on new busline proposals, and road conversion to dedicated bike lanes.
Good luck in Ontario though where DF is actively trying to halt health and progress for its residents
You may wait forever.
WestCoast is building more Skytrain infrastructure right now, and proposing new buslines. Dedicated bikelane proposals are also out for public review on best options. You just have to live in the parts of Canada that care about health and environment.
The metro system in montreal is getting worse and worse. The new montreal mayor is not a big fan of bike lane either
That is unfortunate, there is so much data out there on cities that went with bike lanes and transit and how it had health benefits for everyone (not just the walkers and bikers)
I'm sure most people love dropping their one kid off at soccer and getting their other kid to hockey practice while using the bus
the fuck ? The kid goes to hokey practice on the train then the other kid goes to soccer practice on the bus while you stay home.
Montréal has... okay level transit by North American standards. My kids can go over to the arena by themselves once they turn ten, taking the three stops by bus. Until then I'll just bike with them.
North America just sucks, not because of distances. But because of shit transit and urban sprawl.
When cities are built to live in this becomes a moot point.
I remember seeing elementary kids use the subways in Hong Kong by themselves. In Japan there are kids everywhere taking themselves to and from school. Why does mom need a car to tote them around if the city and transportation are built out correctly.
Yeah, America acts like transit is not viable. Back in my mom's era she was taking the city bus to school at 7 years old.
Just yesterday I was at an organized work event (at an events center), when it was done I walked across the street and got right on the bus, transfered at at a Norths-South East-West corner and dropped off a block from my house.
It's actually more pleasant than driving because you don't have to worry about idiot drivers, and I got to hear some locals exchanging recipe ideas, and where to buy the best avacados. 😀
Most people would not mind that, especially if transit got better. What's your point?
