Cars don't normally explode, when they go off a cliff. Here's a myth busters episode.

i don't wanna watch a video but I mean wouldn't they explode if the gas tank leaks and then ignites, which is probably very rare compared to its portrayal in media but still like, possible? or is that the myth that they bust

Only if it's crushed with enough force that the gas spraying out forms a combustible mist. A merely leaking tank doesn't get enough oxygen quick enough to explode. It just burns. They test this and also crash several cars down and fail to achieve the effect. For one they even mount the gas tank on the front bumper and tape boxes with matches on for sparks. Still no explosion when the car falls down and hits the ground tank first, only burning. They don't completely rule out that it might happen under very special circumstances, but it would be very unlikely.

Of course they tested cars before they would have had access to Teslas

Oh yes, I forgot about those for a second.

Lucky. I pass the same Deplorean on the road every day.

i always thought gasoline was explosive if there's enough of it in a confined space, must be all that corn they're puttin' in it

That’s basically how an internal combustion engine works, but the gasoline has to be a fine mist and mixed appropriately with oxygen. That creates a lot of heat really fast which creates a lot of pressure if it is in a confined space. But that’s what the others are saying on this thread. Without those ideal conditions coming together, it just makes things burn faster but no real explosion.
