I would have snapped and then made an ass of myself, which tends to be the usual.
The last line really brings it home. It's like if an episode of Curb did a post credits sequence.

Hahaha oh man, I remember reading that story in Hitchhikers Guide, I can't believe that really happened to him. God that's so painfully awkward and even more painfully British.
