Piracy is good and you should do more of it. Use https://aniwave.to/ and https://4anime.gg/ for streaming, and https://nyaa.si/ for torrents. Piracy is the only means of digital protest that audiences have to fight poor worker treatment.
Space Runaway Ideon: A Contact and Be Invoked (1982) - Space Opera double feature from Yoshiyuki Tomino (creator of Gundam) and loved by Hidieki Anno. A Contact is a compilation movie for the TV series; like with Gundam, watch the series if you can since it's better. Be Invoked is the real treat - it's effectively a redone/extended ending for the TV show.
I haven't ever heard of this, but this does sound especially interesting considering I've been gravitating towards mech stuff lately. Thanks for the recommendation!
Eva wouldn’t exist without it. Anno ripped everything off from it and 70s super robo stuff. Also check out Nadia if you want a failed prequel to Eva.
It's cool for an 80s anime that still has the look and feel of the 70s stuff. Definitely watch the TV show if you have the time since (like @Cromalin@hexbear.net mentioned) A Contact tries to compress 30+ episodes into <90 minutes and struggles with it.
Be Invoked is really great, though! If you ever wonder why the Evangelion movie has that weird mid-movie credits, it's due to these two playing back to back with no break in their theatrical release.
i haven't seen it but everyone i know who has says a contact is a mess that doesn't even really set you up for be invoked
