Remember when there was some shit going down in India like burning rape victims and other messed up shit weekly in the news cycle? Well it's all still happening, all the same stuff but somehow ppl let it go because India needs to be protected.

Same thing with scam call centers that prey on the most vulnerable of the west.

Seriously, India is fucked and not ready to be taken seriously but we all kinda have to because it's a big country. Disappointing.

Much worse things are going on in India nowadays :(

[-] trailing9@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

What are the worst among those things?

[-] xuxebiko@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

ongoing ethnic & communal genocide of Kuki Chriistains in Manipur for 5th continuous month, anti-Muslim communal pogrom by state and its thugs, communal hatespeech by govt ministers and religious leaders of Hindusm to create an atmosphere of hate, fear, and anger against Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs in the country, massive unemployment (42% of our under-25 year graduates are unemployed), food & fuel inflation, a Prime Minister & his admn who are only focused on grabbing & centralizing power,, misuse of ant-terrorist laws to target jornalits & activists, masssive corruption by PM & the state govts of his political party, brakdown of law & order and the justice system where your religion & caste determine whether you get a shot at justice.

that's the short list.

sorry to dump on you. We used to be a lovely country that believed and lived in democracy and secular harmony, not perfect but trying to be better. But some people just don't like progress, so they've dragged us into the dark ages where everything is a violent us v/s them conflict.

I am of the opinion that we can and should still ignore India without suffering a big impact.

Difficult to ignore when Hindu extremeists live, study, work in developed countries with their casteism and Hindu supremacist politics which has taught them to hate, fear, & dominate non-Hindus (Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, atheists, etc.).

Indian diaspora living abroad are major supporters (financial, social, and emotional) of Hindu extremeism.
