Wasn't this one of the plans floated back in early 2021 as a way to get Trump the presidency? Or maybe I'm confusing it with a plan to re-instate Trump if he were impeached?
The Speaker is 3rd in line for the presidency. Granted, it would still be incredibly difficult to get from there to the presidency, but I'm not accusing the MAGA crowd of having good ideas.
It's like they all watched House of Cards and were like, "Waiiiit a minute.... We could do that!"
"plan". It was discussed that theoretically it would be possible to do in 2022 If the GOP controlled both the house and the senate. It would have required impeachment and conviction of Biden(or his death) and Harris basically simultaneously. So it's a fun thing to discuss to rile up the left, but never actually going to happen.
He absolutely could be nominated and voted on for speaker though.
Well I'm replying to an article about a current Rep saying she won't vote for anyone other than Trump, so I think it's fair to speculate what their "plan" is.
This also isn't new. I found an article from 2021 in response to Gaetz floating the same idea.
Right, the talk about nominating him existed. Him ascending to the presidency wasn't anything taken seriously.
