Ah yes, because drone strikes on schools in Donbas isn't a war and jailing opposition leaders is what normal countries do.

The period between Euromaidan and the SMO is rather terrifying. Suggesting that the war started with the SMO is completely missing the context of what happened prior to that event.

Context doesn't justify an action, but it's important for understanding it. The same applies here: the context of the Russian invasion doesn't justify Ukraine launching missiles at their own civilians, but it helps us understand why it happened.

Edit: with further context being revealed in the past day, I was wrong on this. The casualty count in this context is indicative of a precision strike and a gathering of friends and family and low-ranked military personnel is not a valid proportional military target to even come close to justifying the civilian casualties under international conduct code for armed conflict. Sorry, everyone.

Ukraine can strike civilians as long as they have someone to blame?

One accident vs hundreds of russian warheads killing civilians constantly because they started a war. And you take the side of the Russians because one accident must mean that Ukraine is constantly killing their own on purpose?

So now when more innocents are killed, you gloss over the fact that Russians are killing innocents daily, you gloss over that it could have been an accident, you gloss over the fact that these accidents only happen because Russia is invading the country so they need missiles to defend themselves, and you arrive at "they kill their own people on purpose"

Hey, just thought I'd update this.

With news coming out that there wasn't a valid military target in the area that would justify an attack of this scale (and the lack of Russian confirmation of a successful hit on a Ukrainian general), I was wrong. This does seem like an indiscriminate attack on a marginally relevant target that doesn't follow the principles of proportional response to minimize civilian casualties and Russia is fucked for authorizing this strike.
