Who went "full fedi" yet? (lemmy.giftedmc.com)

Bit of a simple question: Some people on lemmy are still posting stuff from youtube, xitter and the like.

Have you gone full fediverse yet or how far are you?

  1. traded reddit for lemmy/kbin
  2. xitter for mastodon
  3. discord for matrix
  4. youtube for peertube

Obviously I also mean other alternatives. Which ones do you use and why?

Disclaimer: this question is me asking genuinely but also trying to make it fun by arbitrary ranking/escalating it. Not trying to say one is better than the others.

I haven't logged into my Reddit account since June.

I never used Twitter, so that wasn't an issue for me.

I just stopped using Discord, if I need to message someone on the internet I suggest Matrix but I almost never use it.

I mostly use Odysee and Nebula to watch videos, if I need to use YouTube I use alternative front-ends like Piped or LibreTube. I tried PeerTube, but there's just not enough content that I would want to watch.

Yeah, that sounds very reasonable. Peertubes discovery is just not good imo.

It's not just the discovery, there's just not enough quality content.

How would you know if you physically cant discover it?

[-] netchami@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I mean, yeah, that's true. But I haven't heard of many big YouTube/Odysee creators uploading their videos on PeerTube or even entirely switching to PeerTube.

Which is an entirely different issue, right?

Discoverability is key for any youtuber trying to switch. Essentially, right now would be a goog time to build a channel with a couple dozen videos and if (or when) the discoverability changes, you're going viral overnight. It's also a very minor issue. On youtube, people "think" a topic and get it presented due to very native search and the algorithm which mimics and influences their thoughts. Peertube and other fediverse apps dont like algorithms for obvious reasons so a native search it is. I'm trying to raise that issue with the makers rn. Let's see what happens. :)
