Currently I use vendetta for discord which is an open source discord client and while I'm pretty happy with it I suppose it could be better at times.
What are the merits of matrix? What is it exactly? Is there a mobile apk? How do I go about this?
It is a protocol. Element or fluffychat are two clients.
The main benefit is you can host it yourself. Fully encrypted, stored on a server you either own or know the owner/location of.
No ads, nitro or otherwise.
You can bridge discord and nearly all other messaging apps like whatsapp, signal, fb messenger etc
Its pretty huge imo.
