The Atrophy of American Statecraft
(www.foreignaffairs.com)
News from within the empire - From a leftist perspective
Damn, I think that's one of the worst articles I've read, probably the highest ratio of liberal white noise to actual content I think I've ever seen. If I was a high-school English teacher, I would tell the student to re-write this from scratch, it's just pure empty waffling with no substance.
The whole fucking article is just the author namedropping various things in an attempt to sound smart without actually getting to any sort of point. I'm a professional writer who is made to write erotica because it's often the only thing that pays and I put a hell of a lot more effort into respecting my audience's time than this blowhard.
It's just insisting that the US would be "pulled into four different wars" with no establishment of why that happen, or how apart from "They bad guy countries." If the US declared war on Russia, China, Iran and the DPRK it wouldn't be "4 wars" it would be a fucking world war. I guess I was a little wrong about the waffling, this jackass is invoking ww2 imagery for a reason, they want to start ww3.
And as I read on, yep. They're stating (without evidence) that "the governments and media of China, Iran and North Korea have been mobilizing for war." How the fuck does anyone fall for this shit?
And of course the usual (paraphrased) "UN is useless (because the US sabotages it at every opportunity) the only solution is Team America World Police! The world should just do what America says!"
This quote is a bit too long to just quote directly:
The hell is this nonsense? It's like Star Trek technobabble applied to statecraft. Does this person know anything about anything? Was this article written by an AI?
Next he starts jerking off America even more blatantly than before. I'm done. I didn't even make it halfway. @Yogthos how dare you subject my eyes to this. I know I'm the one who clicked on it, but still. This is awful.
Looked this guy up, he was the executive director of the 9/11 commission. Explains a lot about his bloodthirst and warmongering. Doesn't explain why he was so desperate to pad the word count on this garbage.
I find pretty much all western articles with admissions of western decline tend to be written in this style. There are usually a few paragraphs of actual content in the middle of the article, that have to be smothered in the excuses at the start and the end to assure the reader that it's not really the end.
Yeah, most of them are like this, but I think this is the most extreme example I've seen. I sure hope he got paid by the word on this one!
:)
Yeah I stopped reading it early. I’m not the only one who noticed it is just filler with no substance
It's Lacan ~~for reactionaries~~. I thought Sokal and Bricmont had put an end to so this but apparently not.
Still, the author is right that the US is likely #1 in being asked for effective action by it's people. And USians are begging for healthcare, education, and affordable housing. Even it's military personal just be calling for effective leadership.
Damn right it's a paper tiger.
Oh look, it's discounted! What a steal!
And you're right, it is like Lacan (Lacanesque?) If there's one dude these sorts of people love, it's Lacan. Only Jung is more popular with pseudointellectuals.
