why the fuck did they give him strychnine
what the fuck
Per wikipedia, "Strychnine was popularly used as an athletic performance enhancer and recreational stimulant in the late 19th century and early 20th century, due to its convulsant effects."
You know times were tough when people were convulsing recreationally.
I suggest you to watch the series Murdoch Mysteries. It passes in the late 1890s and beginning of 1900s. Sometimes they make jokes with this, with people taking heroin and cocaine as medicine. It’s quite funny knowing the history of these drugs.
I will have to check it out.
I don't know if it was joked about. I remember an episode about the serious consequences of the inspector getting hooked on rubbing cocaine on his gums and the addiction surrounding it
Cocaine does get used as a topical medicine in some cases
Both of those are medicines and still used as such today
At least they didn’t give him a gun powder chaser…
Strychnine had been thought to be able to improve performance by increasing the potential strength of muscle contraction.
Still poison, though. lol
Dosis sola facit venenum.
Only the dose makes the poison.
Warfarin is a common pest poison. It is also used in medicine. Dosage.
