See, when people spend decades and millions cultivating connections for contracts and favors, there comes a time to collect.
Also, when the govt spends decades and billions placating the uninformed masses for votes, they tend to develop a detachment with reality. So after decades of handouts, any adjustment would seem like an oppression.
