Does this mean that Facebook will also be in the fediverse?

Is THIS the true Metaverse?

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 months ago

You can block them like I will and my instance will. They'll be starting on Mastodon first, but I'm sure they'll expand as they need to show "growth".

[-] haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com 5 points 8 months ago

Same here. Meta is not welcome in my instance.

[-] Atemu@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 months ago

Always has been

i wont ever call it that, but you can already interact with threads to some degree.

i know i wont be blocking threads as i want to provide people an offramp. so many masterbatory defederations against the scary 'threads' its almost funny. lets sign a pact! hahahah

[-] Mysteriarch@slrpnk.net 7 points 8 months ago

Many people have purposefully moved away from Big Tech platforms, often because they cause them harm. Who are you to judge their defederation - which is a core feature of the Fediverse btw - as laughable? Every instance is free to decide their own policies, that's the whole point.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 2 points 8 months ago

right, everyone make up their own mind, then go sign this pact!

[-] Deceptichum@kbin.social 4 points 8 months ago

You’re right, we should all have your opinion instead!

You’re the one complaining they're signing a pact.

Oh fuck off. “Im such a unique individual because I want big corporations to exert influence all over the system teeheheehee”

Just go use FB or Twitter if you love them so much.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 0 points 8 months ago

naw, im an agnostic. i just dont care about them. except to maybe help users off those platforms.

[-] Deceptichum@kbin.social 6 points 8 months ago

Oh yeah totally. Nothing helps people move away from something like bringing the something to the place they're moving away too.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 1 points 8 months ago

i know right, i got all my cool stuff from walmart.

[-] AzzyDev@beehaw.org 1 points 8 months ago

god forbid they be able to keep up with creators/friends they care about

[-] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 months ago

They'll be able to. Stop bellyaching. Anyone can spin up their own lemmy or mastodon instance and federate it with meta if they want, or they can just join any existing instance that federates with meta.

That's the wonderful thing about federation: if you don't agree with the choices made by the people running your instance, there's plenty of other instances to choose from! Most instances will still have access to all the same content, so it's not like telling someone to just leave an entire social media platform.

[-] AzzyDev@beehaw.org 0 points 8 months ago

yeah i totally get that, it’s just that imo Deceptichum is being mean about the whole thing. i’m not attacking the concept of federation (or the choice to not do so with certain instances).
