What's the line between long COVID and depression tho

[-] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

A previous infection. Depending on your type of Long COVID you get Post Exertional Malaise after doing stuff. That's one of the easiest to recognise. Proper biomarkers are being studied but it seems to take a long time to reach the medical profession.

Until then most doctors will mistake ME/CFS (the most common Long COVID type) symptoms for depression and prescribe anti depressants, psycho therapy and above all exercise and make everything a lot worse until the patient can't leave their bed anymore. Source: me

Edit: Reading the article my prediction is that most patients will come out of this study worse. Overexertion makes the symptoms worse. That's what their training probably leads to. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Edit 2: Just got https://www.newscientist.com/article/2425958-long-covid-linked-to-signs-of-ongoing-inflammatory-responses-in-blood/ through !health@lemmy.world

You should try actually reading the article. And so should the rest of you. This is not depression.

Yes because they never ruled out depression and you did. Fuck off. Long covid is not depression. Depression doesnt cause you to lose your sense of taste and smell. It doesnt damage your blood vessels to the point where you exhibit symptoms of neuropathy and lack of blood flow.
