Hi guys, I want to communicate with people here via chat if possible, and just wondering what people here are using?

I want to use a protocol if possible, and definitely not discord or some other software run by a corporation. Obviously IRC was the thing to use back in the day. Do people still use it or something else?

I love the fediverse and the idea of getting away from the big tech companies, and am looking for whatever real time chat software is recommended right now. Thanks.

Edit: Setup on Matrix, thanks guys! @xero-:matrix.org hit me up if you want!

I use both Matrix and XMPP regularly. Matrix is what I recommend, unless you want something that will run on low-end hardware, then XMPP is better. They're both good, and very similar.

I setup matrix, any good channels you'd reccommend?

I mostly use it for personal and group communication, I'm not in any large channels.
