Apparently you can only complete 11% of the vanilla game by playing ethically and there are a few mods to help.

I always attempt this in every game with animal interactions. There was a really cute minecraft server I was on for a while that provided plant-based alternate recipes for everything. I really like Oxygen Not Included but the nature of the player's relationship with the "critters" grinds on me the whole time.
